Antica Osteria -Wines & Deli shop!
Antica Osteria located @ STC Building, #1 Paseo Satrunino, Ma. Luisa Road, Banilad Cebu City has finally opened to cater the retail market, it is the sole distributor of the products imported directly from Italy and France by IL DUCATO TRADING, INC. in Banilad, Mandaue City.
It has been my dream to open a shop, where when you get in, you can feel the ambiance like in Italy, but when Il Ducato started to import other products beyond Italian, we have decided to have the theme of the shop, be European, a mix of Italy, France and even a hint of English or British style.... I would have to say that we were never wrong about it, because when people come in, some will say, it seems that they are inside an italian deli shop "trattoria", "osteria" or in a bar...some say, its got a European feel when they get in...so with this mix of hints and style, we can attract people of different descent...and that was satisfying!
Slowly, we are moving, inviting people just to have a look inside and ask question about our products and yours truly has always been trying to learn everyday so as to share the knowledge to people who are also willing to learn about our products and its value, like Parmesan cheese, its origin, its uses, why its expensive and why it doesn't need an expiration date, as many people, producers and manufacturers became crazy about.
Recently, i have visited Italy, and this time, i did really find time to observe the things around restaurants, trattoria, cafe' and bars, esp. the deli shops, on how they have presented their products and the like. I learned a lot when i was there, even though i have been going there for 9 years, still i find it hard to learn everything, i think it takes a lifetime to learn about their culture about food...and i even gained weight, because i need to try on some products that we are planning to import in the future, and since i also cook, i also have to eat in restaurants that offers very good food and planning to cook here when i come back and maybe decide to serve it in Antica Osteria in the near future. Although we already started or trying to serve food in the shop, still we are not ready enough to handle bunch of customers coming to eat, as the shop ambiance really suggested. Many came, asking our Menu', some just walk-in and see the tables and chairs, wanted to eat there and then. Anyhow, Antica Osteria serves a very good espresso and cappuccino, we have lasagne and cannelloni to start with, you can also have your choice of cold cuts and cheeses to try and to go with our best choices of wines, and sandwiches where customers can choose their cheeses and hams from our display. We can also serve fresh salads from our local production but serve with real extra-virgin olive oil, wine vinegar or maybe with balsamic vinegar...
In Italy, its their tradition to have an aperitif before they are going out for dinner. Restobars, wine shops and restaurants will start to become alive @ 5pm, people come for glass of wines and a bite of cheeses and coldcuts. There, they can stay for an hour or two to chat with friends or wait for the dinner time. Having experienced this, I would like to practice this tradition in Antica Osteria, where people come for an aperitif, but i think it will take time to realize this, but i still don't lose hope like my husband Glauco Muzzi, for many years ago, when he started to import wines, never exhausted in explaining every detail of every bottle, whenever somebody asked.
For anybody who accidentally read my blog, fyi, this is my first time, corrections/comments are needed and welcome! and hope that i can make more of this...
